Gone Rural | Eswatini (Swaziland)
Company Focus: We are a Swazi handcraft company inspired by women basket weavers, using creativity and design to ignite change on a community level through ethical, handmade products. The company began as one woman's vision to empower women in Swaziland's most remote areas, and has grown to offer income to more than 780 rural women artisans. Inspired by the lutindzi grass of the mountains of Swaziland and the women leaders of rural communities, we transform the indigenous art of weaving into high-quality products that are showcased and loved all over the world.
Social Impact: Gone Rural provides access to income and economic empowerment for rural women who may otherwise not have access to work, through a home-based model that allows for flexible working hours and location. Through our model of "evolving women's empowerment", we also aim to elevate the empowerment opportunities available to the women through design and teacher training in handcraft. Further, we provide community support through our sister NGO boMake Rural Projects which funds and manages education, water and community building projects.
